Abstract

PCR-RFLP analysis of exon 8 of Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptor (BMPR IB) gene was performed on blood samples from 30 Garole sheep. Amplified PCR fragment of exon 8 of Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptor IB (BMPR IB) gene produced 140 bp. The PCR-RFLP analysis using AvaII restriction enzyme showed only one type of restriction pattern yielding two fragments of sizes 110 and 30 bp in all the studied animals. The present results revealed the lack of polymorphism of Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptor IB (BMPR IB) gene with respect to AvaII restriction enzyme and accordingly, the genotype and allelic frequencies for this fragment were 1.00 in the studied Garole sheep population. The presence of single genotype of Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptor IB (BMPR IB) gene of Garole sheep in the present study may be due to small sample size and close herd. Hence, further study to be necessary on large number of samples for confirmation of the present findings.
