To investigate the response of early seedling parameters of six soybean cultivars i.e. Giza 21, Giza 22, Giza 35, Giza 82, Giza 83 and Giza 111 to salinity stress i.e. 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 dSm-1 NaCl, a laboratory experiment was conducted at Giza Central Seed Testing Laboratory of Central Administration for Seed Certification (CASC), Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt. Studied seedling characters i.e. root and shoot length, root and shoot fresh weight, root and shoot dry weight, seedling height reduction and relative dry weight were significantly differed due to studied cultivars. Results showed that Giza 21 cultivar exceeded other studied cultivars in root and shoot lengths, shoot fresh weights and shoot dry weights. Moreover, Giza 83 cultivar exceeded other cultivars in root fresh weight, root dry weight. Giza 22 cultivar surpassed other cultivars in seedling height reduction and relative dry weight. Results clearly showed that increasing salinity levels from 0 to 15 dSm-1 significantly reduced shoot and root lengths, shoot and root fresh weights, shoot and root dry weights and relative dry weights. Highest averages produced from the control treatment of these characters except seedling height reduction. Results clearly revealed that shoot and root lengths, shoot and root fresh weights, root dry weights and seedling height reduction significantly affected by the interaction between soybean studied cultivars and salinity concentrations. Results clearly indicated that root and shoot lengths, root and shoot fresh weights, shoot dry weight and relative dry weights significantly affected by the interaction between soybean cultivars and salinity concentrations. It could be established that for maximizing soybean seedling parameters under salinity stress are producing by using Giza 22 and Giza 82 cultivars These cultivars were more tolerant to salinity and recommended to use in breeding program for enhancing soybean production in newly reclaimed soils of Egypt.
