Abstract

Hanging fertigation system among recent technology applied by Malaysian farmer to gain profit from growing selected fruit vegetables. This method is proper for problematic area such as acidic soil condition, peat soil and ex tin mining area. An Irrometer will determine the actual soil water tension, which specifies the effort required by root systems to extract water from the soil. The Irrometer is not affected by salinity and does not need site calibration because it is a true measurement of soil water potential. Watermark sensor works with the irrigation controller to allow water to apply only when necessary. This experiment conducted to learn the working principles of tensiometer. Tensiometer measure soil tension how forcefully water is being pulled out of the sensor to the soil. Tensiometer is good indicator of soil moisture because it has direct measurement by reading the physical forces at work in soil. The instrument was placed in jackfruit and left for a week. The reading are taken each day and the results shows that reading is high in sunny day and lower in raining day. Tensiometers will be a fixed installation for controlling irrigation scheduling.
