Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder associated with inflammation and an impaired antioxidant status. Magnesium is one of the most important micronutrients, with a decisive role in regulation of inflammation and immunity. In this study, we compared levels of magnesium and C-reactive protein levels between rheumatoid patients and healthy controls. A significantly lower magnesium levels were found among patients with rheumatoid arthritis compared with normal healthy controls. The results of this study highlight the importance of magnesium as immune regulator in relation to CRP in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
