Aim of this study was to estimate, relation between serum uric acid and newly diagnosed hypertension. Objective: To find out asses the association between hyperuricaemia and hypertension. Material and Method: A case control study was conducted in department of Biochemistry of Grant Govt. Medical College and Sir J.J Group of Hospitals from May to July 2010. A total no. of 50 newly diagnosed hypertensive subjects aged 30 - 40 yrs. were included as cases with same no. of age matched normotensive subjects as control after excluding the associated abnormal disease conditions. Serum uric acid was measured on autoanalyzer AU-400 and values noted. Result: The mean & std.deviation of serum uric acid levels were 5.704 + 1.571 mg/dl and 13.28 + 1.533 mg/dl in case and control patients resp. The serum uric acid levels were significantly higher(p<o.ooo1) in hypertensive cases as compare to normotensive patients. Conclusion: It is concluded that hyperuricaemia is significantly associated with hypertension and hyperuricaemia - hypertension risk relationship is present in patients irrespective of metabolic syndrome.
